Welcome to Larry Birdle, a word-guessing game created by Jacob Tepperman. Inspired by Nyt Strands and Poelltl, this game puts an NBA twist on the classic concept. Instead of language skills, it tests your passion and knowledge of basketball.
While it serves a narrow customer base, that does not mean it is not for newcomers. The basic gameplay keeps you engaged for hours and provides new information about the National Basketball Association.
When you log into the game, the main interface takes you by surprise. Unlike other spin-offs, there's no empty grid. Instead, the Filters board grabs your attention. It offers four options: Starters Only, Position, Division, and Team, to define target players.
That's right, you can set some limits for your challenge. This feature allows newcomers with little knowledge about basketball to narrow down the long list of NBA players. Once you've picked your favorites, tap Apply. The system will do its magic work and generate a hidden name for your challenge.
If you are confident about your abilities, skip this step. Then, scroll down to reach the input bar and hint panel. You have no clues initially, so feel free to enter a random name. As you type a few letters, the system will assist you in finishing it. Click Guess and observe the changes in the section below.
The game evaluates your inputs against mystery keywords using a unique color scheme, symbols, and arrow markings. For the first four columns (Team, Conference, Division, and Position), green shows that you have correctly identified one characteristic of the mysterious player. Your guess is incorrect if you see no color change.
The remaining three columns (Height, Age, and Number) apply the same principle but with a twist. Add or subtract your guessed number within 2 units if you see a yellow square. Consider the direction of the arrow to optimize your attempts.
Remember that you only have 8 eight moves to unlock the hidden keyword. When all the squares turn green, you win. If you need more assistance, click Show Silhouette to see a silhouetted image of the target.
If you fail, do not give up! Refresh the game to start a new challenge with Practice mode. The best part about this mode is that it has no limit on how many times you can play each day.
You can switch to Daily mode and compete against other word-guessing lovers worldwide. Everyone has to figure out the same secret name within 24 hours. So, let's see who can uncover it the fastest.
